Tarryall Creek Headgate Construction Project
In Fall of 2024 FlyWater, inc. was hired for a design/build project to remove and replace a failing headgate structure as well as improve the diversion structure to reduce areal flooding and allow for improved fish passage.
FlyWater, inc. performed a survey of the existing structures and ditch, then designed a new headgate structure and diversion structure to increase the efficiency to allow the ranch to obtain their full right in the ditch. In the survey, it was discovered that the ditch also needed light regrading to help with flow and reduce pooling. To ensure that the new structure would not succumb to the frost that caused the original to fail. The new structure was constructed with proper depth, footers, and cut off walls. The subgrade and backfill material were improved by importing engineered aggregates then topped with native. FlyWater, inc. installed a custom slide gate as well as a catwalk and handrails to provide safety and access to the ranch for operation and angler access to the river. A custom flume was also installed by our crew to ensure measurements would be accurate, and water could not bypass.
