Jeff Ellis
River Restoration Engineer
Jeff joined the FlyWater team in 2026 after earning his Professional Engineer license and completing a master's degree in Hydraulic Engineering and River Restoration from Colorado State University. His background combines hydraulic analysis, physical modeling, field investigations, and design, with experience spanning river restoration, dam rehabilitation, and water infrastructure projects. Prior to FlyWater, Jeff managed Colorado State University's Hydraulics Laboratory, where he led the design and construction of large-scale physical hydraulic models, conducted complex hydraulic testing, and worked with clients from across the world. He enjoys blending engineering with practical construction solutions to restore river systems and improve aquatic habitat.
Growing up in Fort Collins, Jeff developed a lifelong passion for rivers and the outdoors. Whether he's floating a remote wilderness river, hiking into a backcountry stream with a fly rod, or exploring new waters across the West, he is happiest on the water. Outside of work, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife and dog, rafting, fly fishing, skiing, camping, and tackling home improvement projects.
